Legoland In Gūnzburg, Perfect Family Day Out

Germany

During our recent trip to Germany, it was planned that we would head to Legoland Gūnzburg just outside the town of Gunzburg.

This was Lukas’ choice, he had decided on this theme park during our planning phase. Plus he is a big lego fan!

We left our friends, who live near Stuttgart, early for the 140km drive. Upon arrival, we parked the car, in which there is plenty of space and walk towards the entrance.

It wasn’t as busy as I thought it would be, I’m guessing that was because it was a weekday. We purchased our tickets online as it saves quite a bit of money.

As it was Lukas’ day it was up to him what we did.

Legoland Gūnzburg Park Activities

The park is split into different themed sections and to start with Lukas wanted to look at all the building constructed out of lego in Miniland.

There are pretty impressive and included the Allianz Arena football stadium, Berlin Reichstag, Hamburg Harbour and Frankfurt, along with a Star Wars and many more.

Lukas loves football, so seeing the Allianz Arena is definitely ‘two thumbs up’

From there we moved into LegoCity where Lukas choose his first ride, ‘Hyundai Legoland Driving’. A gentle car ride around a track. At the end of the ride he received his drivers’ licence, he was pretty happy about this.

After this, we continued to make our way around through Knight’s Kingdom and Imagination, with Lukas selecting rides as we passed.

Most of these were all very gentle, well the ones he chose were. Connie managed to get him on ‘Fire Dragon’ a roller coaster ride, he wasn’t impressed but Connie enjoyed it.

Places to Eat

The first place we stopped at was Cafe EIN STEIN, now I’ve eaten in many theme parks around the world and at best most are average but here the food was amazing.

With a delicious range of sandwiches, pastries and croissants safely sitting in our tummy’s we were ready to explore the rides.

Make sure to eat in the STARS Grill House in Lego Extreme.

The menu here is great, including a range of burgers, salads and they also offer gluten-free dishes. Lukas chose this place for dinner and it didn’t disappoint.

There are plenty of other places to grab a bite, I’m pretty sure you won’t be disappointed wherever you choose to eat.

Ride Tips

This is how our day progressed, we made our way around all themed areas, Lukas picking rides as we moved.

To be honest most of the rides are gentle, designed for the young ones and so it should be.

Luckily Lukas decided he liked more of the thrill rides and happily rode the following which we would recommend.

Lukas and Mum riding the Wave Rider

Lukas and Mum loved riding the Wave Rider, they did this a couple of times.

Jungle Xpedition – water ride with a couple of drops, finishing with a 12-metre slide leading into the lagoon

Aquazone Wave Racers – another water ride that swings you around while you squirt water through a jet spray

The Great Lego Race – a cool rollercoaster ride, the expression on Lukas’s face is priceless Techno Tea Cups – Connie did this as I hate spinning around

Flying NINJAGO – Fly about 22 metres above the ground, again you are going in a circle so once more Connie stepped up while I had Sawyer.

These rides were probably the best as an adult but the reality is it’s not really about us adults.

There is a great range of rides, something to suit every kid.

While he didn’t go on all the rides in the park he certain went on a few. Here are some of the gentle rides that Lukas would recommend;

  • Royal Joust
  • Airport
  • Harbour Cruise
  • Pedal-A-Car
  • Safari Tour
  • Canoe X-pedition

There are a couple of Lego shops at the entrance/exit to the park and this is where Lukas spent the last 30 minutes of his day.

He had saved up his pocket money to spend at Legoland Gūnzburg and now the hard take was deciding what to buy.

Legoland Gūnzburg Accommodation

If you fancy staying the night here there is a range of options for you to choose.

The best option would be staying at the Legoland Holiday Village, it has a variety of accommodation themed options, from LEGOLAND camping barrels and campsites to the LEGOLAND castles.

From the village to the park is only a 5-10 minute walk.

This includes free entry into Legoland Gūnzburg along with 18 Themed Playgrounds, Pirate Golf, High Rope Course, Pirate Bowling, Nightly Entertainment and so much more.

This is certainly on our to-do list next time we return.

End of the day, time to leave Legoland Germany. Lukas loved his time there.

Final Thoughts

If you are coming to Germany with your kids then Legoland Gūnzburg is a must for a great family day out.

There is a variety of rides for everyone as well as great food and accommodation. Lukas absolutely loved it as he was in charge of the day.

Hi, I've been fortunate enough to have travelled for over 25 years. My parents gave me the travel bug when I was 10 years old by taking my sister and I to the USA and Mexico for two months. I've travelled by myself, with mates, with my wife and now as a family of four. My goal is to inspire our families to get out and see the world.
